Day 262- I Dream of Shayna

I was sleeping last night and rolling quickly through a series of dreams that I can’t quite recall. I do remember one was a flying dream which I haven’t had in a very long time. I miss my flying dreams, the total freedom of being able to lift off just with a thought and take off in any direction I want.  Normally in my flying dreams I am the only one who can fly. In this dream though a few people saw me flying and decided to try and soon several people were in on the fun.  Then the scene shifted. This was a completely different scene. I was by a very large pool in the middle of summer.  It was packed.  Kids were playing and parents were sunbathing.  I don’t think I was in my body as my vantage point was from about 10′ in the air and I was looking down on the scene when suddenly I saw a dark skinned chubby girl come running across my field of vision. She looked very familiar.  Then I realized it was Shayna.  This was Shayna at around age 6 or 7. She was chubbier than Shayna ever was in life, but it was clearly her.  Her skin was dark because Shayna would get dark very quickly every summer.  She had on swim googles. Her hair was in twists pulled back into a pony tail. She was eating something from a bag- Doritos?  She was excited and chatting away at the speed of a chipmunk like she always did. She was moving fast following a friend, excited at whatever she was going to do next.

I thought to myself “That can’t be Shayna. She’s dead.”  I got excited and, once again, I knew this was a dream.  I called out to her “Shayna!  Shayna! Shayna!” but, she couldn’t hear me over the noise of the crowd and because she was so focused on the fun she was having.  I guess I got a little too excited because I woke myself up. I suddenly found myself in my bed covered in goosebumps. I was glad to have seen her, but disappointed I didn’t get to talk to her or at least give her a hug.
