Day 531- Happy New Year- Part 2
After my walk on New Year’s Day I have to decide what to do with the rest of my day. The Bengals are playing this afternoon, but who cares? They are out of the playoffs, the Ravens (their opponents) are out of the playoffs, the Bengals are sitting about half of their starters with injuries. So, when Kayla asks what I’m about to do, I tell her I will probably watch a little of the game. As soon as the Bengals score, I decide that’s enough. We are going to watch a movie. Tywana’s out doing her mother’s laundry at her place. I always have a queue of movies to watch when Kayla comes home. Kayla and I are the ones who like old movies and can watch classics over and over. Tywana and Shayna could not appreciate older movies and Tywana doesn’t like movies that she might not have seen for a couple of decades. So, Kayla and I call up “How to Steal a Million” with Audrey Hepburn and Peter O’Toole and enjoy the classic styles of the 1960s, the era Kayla feels she should have been born in.
After we finished “How To Steal A Million”, I ask Kayla if she’s seen “African Queen” with Audrey Hepburn’s sister, Katherine Hepburn. She has not. I know it was in my queue, but I guess we never watched it together. Kayla makes it through about 10 minutes of the movie, then falls asleep. She was up early, for her, before noon. So, it’s nap time. Maybe it’s the lack of fashion that fails to keep her attention. The movie is set on a boat and neither character is decked out the way Audrey Hepburn is in her movies. I watch the classic with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn by myself.
As the second movie ends, Tywana gets home. It’s time to take out the leg of lamb that I did in the sous vide and get ready for dinner. After dinner, we continue my day of couch surfing by watching a movie from 2001- The Glass House. We wrap up the evening watching one of my all-time favorites, “Arthur” from the early 80s. I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched “Arthur”, but I never get tired of it.
It’s been a great New Year’s Day. I got to spend the entire day with Kayla doing what we love to do.
