Day 539- White Stone Ceremony
Every January at Unity of Garden Park, we have what is known as the white stone ceremony. The name is taken from a passage in the second chapter of the book of Revelation. Revelation 2:17 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.
During the ceremony, after some singing and meditation, we are to listen for a new name, a word, or an inspiration from Spirit that will give us direction for the year. This is our second white stone ceremony since beginning to attend Unity. We are supposed to try to calm our thinking mind, set aside the analysis and work with our intuition to hear this inspiration. But, I have to say that, when I heard the ceremony was this weekend, my mind already started churning, searching for a name.
As we got into the ceremony, I tried to set that aside and truly receive an inspiration. But, like always when I listen for Spirit, I’m left wondering if it’s just my imagination or if it’s truly inspired. I did get something, but I also realized that while this is is a beautiful ceremony, full of inspiration and meaning, it’s not a once a year thing for me. I work on this daily when I’m listening to my podcasts, doing my walks, doing my meditation. I’ve been listening for this inspiration and metamorphosizing for at least a year and a half now. And, even before that. I’ll take my white stone and write the name I got on it and put it in the box on my meditation table. Then, today, I will sit and do it all again. And, I’ll do it again tomorrow and the next day. Every day is a new beginning.
