This is the shortest Skeptiko episode I’ve heard at just under 40 minutes, but it might be the best. After Shayna passed, Tywana and I discovered the traditional grief counseling wasn’t going to do it for us. Elizabeth Kubler Ross’ Five Stages of Dying (which have been misapplied to grief) weren’t working for us. I will NEVER “accept” the fact that Shayna has just disappeared. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) only works when you begin with the right beliefs. We basically pieced together our own program which sounds like it might be similar to what Forever Family Foundation has come up with. We start with the assumption that our bond with Shayna is eternal, but it’s not just about faith or wishful thinking. We have spend every day of the last year examining evidence that bolsters that belief and allows us to internalize it and make it our own.
I highly recommend taking 40 minutes to listen to this Podcast. It expresses what we have discovered so very well. BTW, the transcript is NOT the whole interview, just excerpts.
